The Final Days With the Puppies!

This experience has been memorable for sure. I will say, my patience has truly been tested, these last few weeks. My emotions have also been put on a roller coaster ride. On one hand I'm very happy to be seeing them go to their new homes. On the other hand I'm extremely sad to be seeing them leave. When we started on this journey with Sofie and Ali I mentally prepared myself for long nights, getting up really early, being worried about Sofie and her pups, or potentially having a pup not make it. I feel like I had prepared for anything. What I wasn't prepared for was the feeling of loss. I even purposely didn't give the puppies names so I wouldn't get too attached. Before I knew it though the nail polish colors I used to color code them with were not colors anymore. Red became Mr. Red. Green turned into Greenie, and Sparkles into Sparky. Maroon took on the name Mr. Man. Coral, Purple, and Mustard all sounded more like names than they did colors. That's why Pink will be named Pinky, because nothing else seems to fit.
To everyone getting a puppy, I would absolutely love it if you could send me photos every now and then either through email, text or on the Facebook group I made for us. Sofie, Ali and I would love to see updates on the puppies. The link to the Facebook group and YouTube Channel are below.

Now for some fun information. The puppies all had really good first vet visits. They all got their first shots being DAPP or DHPP. Their last round of deworming from me will be given on Friday. They should continue deworming until they are 12 weeks of age. Deworming medicine is given every other week. For anyone wondering what I feed them, it's Nutrisource Small & Medium Puppy food. Sofie gets Nutrisource Adult Chicken and Rice with some homemade food my parents and I make from a recipe my Mom found. I recommend looking into the food you feed your dog to make sure it's right/good for them.
Thank you for an awesome, crazy, fun, joyful, sort of sad, but also really happy experience. One that I'm sure I won't forget. Even if we do another litter the first one will always be in my memory. I wish a long and happy life to the puppies. I also hope they don't cause their new mom's and dad's too much trouble!

Another Late Post

Hello everyone,
I apologize again for anyone who has been waiting at the computer for me to post the new pupdate. They've been keeping me so busy I almost forgot to post! They are into their 7th week! Wow, I can't believe how fast this has gone. Two months seemed like such a long time, but it feels like she was giving birth to her pups just yesterday. I made a video this week for everyone to watch. I also made a YouTube channel for my girls so you can all see what kinds of adventures we get into. Sofie has been playing with her pups everyday and she enjoys it so much. The method I use to feed them has changed several times. Right now I am feeding two at a time because their feeding time became a wild free for all. I couldn't manage all of them at once and I want to ensure everyone is getting the right amount of food. Plus they eat slower when there is less pressure from their litter mates. We gave them their second dose of deworming Sunday. They have their first Vet visit on Wednesday where they will get a first check up and one of their first shots.

5 Weeks Old!

Five weeks, already?

I apologize to anyone who has been waiting for the weekly pupdate! I was going to upload a post yesterday, however, the puppies had a very exciting day today that I wanted to share in this post. Recently, our weather has been, well, under the weather. Getting a chance to let the puppies run around outside has been slim due to too many rainy days. Today it was mostly blue sky and more importantly, no rain. We let the puppies run around in a designated spot outside. They really enjoyed themselves. They also got REALLY tuckered out. They are done nursing from mom and are eating near solid kibble now. All the puppies are so cute, even when they are tackling each other. Sofie has been having loads of fun teaching her pups how to play. Another fun thing we did this weekend was take a bath. The little pups did so well splashing in the water while we washed them. A few of the puppies have already met their future parents. I'll be contacting everyone else on the call list during the course of the week to set up puppy pick dates. Only a few more weeks until they go home!

Week 5, here we come!

I can't believe we are into the second month. The puppies are full on running around now. They are still mostly sleeping but after a full belly and a good nap they spring to life for about 15 minutes. In the 15 minutes, they manage to poop and pee more than I thought could be possible. Playing with each other has graduated from licking faces to chewing on ears and pawing at one another. I watched Sofie teach one of her girls how to play today. She showed her how to spin in circles really fast and the proper tail wag method. I really wish I would've gotten the interaction on camera to show everyone, maybe next time. The pups are eating more solid food now. I'm starting their first round of deworming this week. I didn't want to start too early, as I know it can be hard on their little stomachs. I hope to have them pretty much weaned off of the mothers milk by the end of this week. Their teeth are really in now, I can't imagine what that must feel like for Sofie when she's nursing. The pups are getting their fair share of social interactions. We've had a few visitors this weekend, to those who came out I thank you. It's important for the puppies to get plenty of positive social experiences so they don't get fearful. This week I look forward to speaking with everyone who has called, to set up a date to come pick out the puppy they want. I still have to pick which one I'll be keeping and it's honestly going to be so difficult to pick! They are all too cute!

Week 3!

The Puppies are 3 Weeks old!

We are headed into the 4th week. This past week was pretty chill. They're walking with more confidence now and can see better. They're starting to play with each other which is mostly just licking each others face. They are getting more and more curious everyday and their vocals are really starting to come in. Each one is gaining more personality by the day. Things we introduced them to this week include, the litter pan, gruel, momma's dog bed, and the kitchen (their play room). We are all having loads of fun.

Week 2

Today is the start of week 3. They are growing so fast! Their weight started out at about 17oz and are now weighing in at about 50oz. The two boys seem to be having a race and are tied at 57.5oz! We've been keeping a close watch for their eyes to start opening. On Thursday we saw little black dots starting to appear. They even started to blink. Mom has been doing a wonderful job cleaning and taking care of the little ones. They've started to get a little more vocal and are really moving around now. It's a true race to get to mom when she goes in the box to nurse. I even have to hold the puppies back a little to let Sofie find a spot in the box. Yesterday we moved them into the area they will be for the rest of their time here. I anticipate they will be climbing their way out of the box by the end of next week. There will be a sleeping area at night and a play area during the day for them. I've heard that week 2 is the calm before the storm, so wish us luck for the coming week.

Ali and Sofie's 1st litter

Born: April 19th, 2025

Hi everyone! I'm going to be using this blog as a space to give weekly updates on the puppies (or pupdates). Today marks one week since the birth. So far everyone is doing good. The puppies are gaining weight daily.
This is a new experience for both Sofie and I. We are both learning new things every day. She has been such an amazing mother so far. Its awesome to watch her motherly instincts come to life. Her puppies are just as cute as she is.
On Friday the 18th at about 1pm she started panting and nesting around the house. We already had her acquainted with the whelping box/pool we had made up for her. Nights before her big day she had been sleeping out in the living room. Usually she would come to bed with us and hop up on the bed for the night. We didn't want her sleeping alone so we put a mattress in the living room and camped out. I stayed up most of Friday night not wanting her to go into labor in the night and miss it. She made it through the night and started contracting at about 1:45pm on Saturday. Of course she felt the mattress was a better place to give birth rather than the box. I told her that she can choose wherever she feels most comfortable. She pushed out boy number 1 at 2:01pm. 29 minutes later, female number 1 was born. Then 4 more females in the next 30 minutes. When we had gotten the x-ray done at the vet, they saw at least 6 for sure, but we knew there were more. We figured we were expecting at least 7. 20 minutes after puppy number 6, Sofie started pushing again. Boy number 2 was born at 3:42pm. Sofie looked very tired and she seemed as though she was done. She had a tougher time getting number 7 out. We didn't see anymore contractions, so we started cleaning her up, thinking she was done. At about 4:25pm she contracted once again. We all looked at each other in awe. We couldn't believe she was about to have another! We knew this one was going to be hard because she was getting tired at this point. At 4:35pm she pushed out number 8, a female! We cleaned her up and right away I could tell something was wrong. I didn't feel any movement. I kept rubbing and creating stimulation to get the body moving. I still wasn't feeling anything. I thought maybe it couldn't breathe so I tried sucking water out it's nose making sure its airways were free. Still nothing. Sadly she had a stillborn. One of the saddest things I've ever seen was watching my baby girl realize one of her puppies didn't make it. My hands were shaking. I look down at Sofie and I watch her contract again. At 4:58 she finally had her last female. I'm so proud of my girly, she did such an awesome job delivering her puppies.
I look forward to our next pupdate, where we should see some eyes opening up. It's been really fun to watch how fast they grow.

Update

Hi guys, I realize I haven’t posted on this blog in a year. So I am very sorry to any of you who have been just dying to get an update.
The first two shows of the year, Allentown and EA Art Festival were great. Even though the East Aurora Art Festival was a little bit of a washout the turn out was still great, which I am very thankful for. So thank you to everyone who came out to either of the two shows.
This weekend is the Made in The Adk show! Very excited about it. The show was very successful for me last year so I am thrilled to be back again this year. I will have some new artwork with me for you all to check out such as a few Adk scenes and night landscape scenes. The show will be at The Adirondack Experience, formerly known as the Adirondack Museum on Saturday July, 21st from 10:00 am- 5:00 pm. For more information visit their website here.
For even more of an update. I recently discovered the Bloomingdale Bog Trail in the Adirondacks. The trail has two separate entrances. The south entrance is marked on Rt. 86 by a dark cut out of a man on a tractor and the north is along Rt. 55. The Bloomingdale bog is a great place to go birding and to see lots of wildlife. I highly recommend this place. Here are some photos of the birds I saw.
Birds I saw include some Grey Jays that were eating right out of our hand, a few Cedar Waxwings, a Hooded Merganser, a Common Yellowthroat, a few Thrushes, a White-throated Sparrow, a hawk carrying its prey and a female Scarlet Tanager.
